Fred Abrams, MD, DABOG, FACOG


Fred Abrams, MD, DABOG, FACOG, retired in 1996 after 42 years in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2003, he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Center for Bioethics and Humanities of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center for “helping to create such a fertile ground for bioethics in Colorado.” He was active in the drafting and passage of Colorado’s first advance directive laws and founded the first health care ethics committee in the region. Currently, he serves on the boards of the UCHSC Center for Bioethics and Humanities, the Life Quality Institute, and The Academy fir Lifelong Learning, and several health care ethics committees. His book of stories about ethical dilemmas encountered in medical practice is called Doctors on the Edge.
